Steve,
Being a first time grower, I for one am not interested
in weigh-off dates either at this point in my pumpkin
growing endeavors. I believe first time growers should
first get a grip on what this is all about. I enjoy it. It's
VERY good therapy for the soul (sort of rough on the
body at times), and if, at the beginniing of September
one should realize that they indeed do have a King
Kong pumpkin, then sure, see what you can do about
finding a weigh-off site. I'm in Alabama and have no
clue as to where a weigh-off site is for my area. But
if I did have a monster, then I'd see about finding a site.
I just want to grow some pumpkins for myself and my
family. This is about fun, isn't it? Sure, money would
be grand and I've never needed it more in my life than
I do right now. But first things first. Crawl before you walk.
There may be a first time grower that produces a really
big pumpkin, but a blind hog will find an acorn occassionally!
I guess this message is a way for me to vent my thoughts
because I've been asked if I'm gonna enter any of my
pumpkins in any contest, and I always say no. I just want
to grow a pumpkin. I've got 10 AG's, 1 North Carolina giant,
and 3 Howdon plants growing like mad right now and, believe
me, I only planted so many because I was sure some of them
would die, but, they didn't. I've just got to do my best to
help them all do their thing now.
