Over Ten Percent of the Goal

The 858 Baird has really taken off this past week. From Saturday to
Sunday, it had an estimated gain of 23 pounds. After 21 days of growth, it
is now estimated to weigh 132 pounds and has a circumference of 76.5
inches. The top four pumpkins in the pumpkin patch are:

   Plant Pollinated Circumference (14 days)
   ----------- ---------- -----------------------
1) 858 Baird June 28 41 inches
2) 696 Klema July 3 45.5 inches
3) 520 Heyne July 5 50 inches
4) 500 Noffke July 6 37.5 inches (13 days)

The half inch of rain last evening really did wonders for these pumpkins
and the growth of these AGs has me really pumped up.

At this time, I do not have a watering system other than carrying a five
gallon bucket from a stream to the pumpkin patch. After reading all
the notes on the bulletin board and seeing what large amounts of water
will do for a pumpkin, I need to change my ways and come up with some form
of watering system. Otherwise, I feel that I will not take that next step
in growing the large pumpkin. I have have been lucky this year as the
rains have come at the proper time and I have not needed to water.

That is the story from southeastern Minnesota.
