Re: A putts or the bomb (update 561, 702, Failor's 444, Shapiro's 506)
Regarding the 561 cross ;
I transplanted two May 1st. Plants were slowest to grow but they had a
hill destined for them. Two weeks later pulled one that had a cracked
stem. The other one was fine. Started pollinating pumpkins on it aroun
July 6th. Largest is slightly bigger than a basketball. Very round and
nice looking pumpkins at this stage. Plant has had most vines
terminated, the few left will be terminated this week. Not an
outstanding leaf or vine producer, easily trained though. Plant is
roughly 25 x 35 feet.
The 702 has large vines and huge dark green leaves but its pumkins are
very pear-shaped.
Failor's 444 believe it or not has recieved by far the least amount of
attention but it is pushing the largest pumpkin in the patch. About 60"
circumference it resembles a pony barrel shape. A very solid looking
fruit. It'll get more attention in the future.
Shapiro's 506 is the largest plant as far as vines are concerned ~ 30' x
45' and has some decent shaped (volleyball-sized) pumkins started.
