I'm down to 5 left on my 815 and all are almost equal. will need to cull this week. This is hard to do. Congradulations on such a great year thus far. Hoping and wishing you keep in together until weigh-off. shellie

Thanks! Aside from the initial soil prep I have only fertilized twice this year, the second time being today. Last year I was fertilizing once or twice a week with 1.25 pounds miracle gro (or similar water soluble from Schultz). Since I knew I was going on holiday (and my daughter didn't want to fiddle with the in-line fertilizer mixer I use) I didn't plan
to start regular fertilizing on a weekly basis until now. The in-line mixer is designed for fertilizing lawns and cost me about $20. I have a normal lawn sprinkler in the middle of my patch (on top of the pumpkin shade this year) that is used for all the watering and fertilizing. The watering schedule is 900 liters (about 225 gal US) every other day.
With the very hot dry weather we've been having this seems to be working out fine. I have not had any problems with overhead watering as others have described from time to time. This is probably because I water first thing in the morning and we have a very dry climate with low humidity.

There are a few other pumpkins on the plant but they were only pollinated a couple of weeks ago and are about soccer ball sized at most. They are my insurance for Halloween in case the the main one encounters problems. I suspect there are a few hidden under all those leaves I still have not found yet.
