O.K., I didn't know it took that long! I dusted Sevin on the plant so,
hopefully it helped. I haven't checked it since then. Also, I tied a couple
male flowers shut, so they wouldn't open and let them in so they didn't eat
the pollen. Last year I couldn't hardly find one GRAIN of pollen when they
attacked, they ate it all in all the flowers!

Whew!!!!!! O.K., so maybe I am not doomed. But I did soak it for like 16
hours, I was going to transfer them to paper towels Friday night, but I fell
asleep and woke up in a panic when I realized it was still soaking. I hope
that doesn't hurt it or anything. I worry about this stuff a lot, but you know
how I am about the Hester seed! Oh yeah, weird thing....the Wallace plant has
now re-taken the lead over the 550 Cramer! It is weird! The Wallace was way
ahead, then the Cramer started to take over, and now the Wallace is ahead
again! It makes it a hard choice to decide which one to cull, but I heard that
a lot don't cull until they are 12 feet long or so. So I'll probably wait. I
wanted to cull early at first since I want to give the best plant the optimum
conditions as soon as possible since they are planted so late. But oh well, I
guess it wouldn't make much of a difference to wait. Anyway a WEIRD thing just
happened to the Cramer. The vine kind of "opened up" almost like if you slit a
toilet paper tube long-ways and uncurled it halfway. The flattening vine on
the Wallace doesn't look so bad like it did at first. Stuff changes so fast
with them, it is hard to keep up! I need to get some pictures taken of them
and post them up on some page or something. Maybe I can send them to somebody
on the list with a scanner. I can't wait to see if the Hester sprouts. It is
planted in the hill all by itself where the one you send was planted which the
gopher (rabbit?) ate. But this time it has a cage all around it (and over it),
plus covered with floating row cover inside of that, so if it does sprout,
they won't be able to see it. (Plus it keeps the soil moist, warmer, and
insects and stuff out). Now I have one more hill I need to get an AG in. The
one that I tried growing the Brock 1006x941 seeds in, none of them sprouted,
sooooooo I need to either ask Brock for another one or try one of the others.
I am kind of hyped up on the 1006x941 though, just because it has great
genetics. Maybe just to use to cross pollinate with maybe the Hester or
something.
