Hi All!
I must say, this is one of the most entertaining and informative lists
I've ever had the pleasure to lurk. I especially enjoy the poety of
Pumpkin Flower. You should consider publishing your work.
My husband wanted to grow a giant pumpkin, so I planted six Dill's
Atlantic Giant plants, almost as an afterthought. Now I have six
pumpkins growing, one of which grows by leaps and bounds each day. Just
ten days ago it was the size of a softball, and now its diameter is 40"!
I am more excited than my husband. Every morning and every evening I go
out to check on it and give it words of encouragement. However, I am
worried. Last year I had a terrible infestation of squash bugs, the
sheild back insects some call stink bugs. They took out all my squash,
even killed the zucchini (we were actually happy to see that die). Every
night I search under leaves for the tiny eggs and squish 'em. So far, I
been able to keep them under control, but now I have hundreds of leaves
to check and the plants continue to sprawl. Is there anything else I
could use? I bought some Sevin, but I haven't used it because I don't
want to kill the pollinating honey bees that moved into a nearby maple
tree. Is there anything out there that targets just these icky bugs?
