concerned in Ca.

In reply to Pumpkin Flowers post about not having a pumpkin set by August
1, I do have some concerns. I must have deleted the original post that
was sent so I can't quote P.F. but what I remember most was it's over for
those that haven't set a fruit by August 1 and see you next year. Well,
I will be setting my first pumpkins on two plants next week. I believe
in explosive growth. In the past we have had pumpkins mature in less than
60 days. I hope to have a pumpkin growing up to the day before Half Moon
Bay's weigh-off. Your probably right about not making it to the GPC
weigh-off in Elk Grove, Ca., but It can be done. Last year we had a
pumpkin open to the seed cavity at 55 days. That was one that got away.
With temps in the upper 90's to low 100's on a daily basis the pumpkins
grow so fast they're hard to keep on the vine. Hopefully within the next
60 days or so you will hear of great things coming from the central
valley growers.
