Broken Vine

After a night of stiff winds and heavy downpours (inch and 3 quarters in rain gauge) Ii found a main vine broken off about a foot 1/2 from the end. Of course this vine has my biggest pumpkin on it (10.5 inches). I treated with captan but since I.'m so new at this I'm not sure if this is peeing into the wind or does this vine have a chance? Any Advice? Pauline in Uxbridge, Mass.
