Stem split...Captan/bury or ? Soliciting advice

Group,

I have a split....10 inches or so...on the stem my most vigorous plant (a 
Failor 550).  I noticed it yesterday while dusting with Sevin.
Although I've done som research in the archives, I was wondering if anyone 
would be interested in sharing their experience and or opinion on the 
different treatment approaches. I don't have Captan on hand and have never 
used it so advice on the use/function of Captan would be welcome too.
