  Sharecropping is a thousands of years old practice. All the pumpkins
are sort of yours and his. You could enter the fruit at the fair under
both your names (if permitted by fair rules) as he furnished the soil
and greenhouse.
  If the fruit wins, both of you can be proud and brag. A Man is proud
of his son and it does not detract from his joy that he could not have
raised such a fine boy without the participation of the wife. 
  Sharing in the honor might make your landlord more interested next
year.
