1st hard newbie lesson
To fellow newbies out there trying their darndest
to grow their "babies" right- while your pumpkin is small pay close attention to
how it is growing on the vine. Make damn sure the blossom end is NOT pointing
towards the end of your vine, because when your "baby" grows up it could crush
the main vine. Luckily my main is o.k. but I had to remove the 1st pumpkin I had
pollinated (6/25) which measured 27 inches after surgery.Oh well, Sam
Adams is trying to cheer me up but I thought I'd warn others as unawares as I
about this potential problem. It's possible that I may not have done anything
wrong, maybe she was doomed from the start, but it still hurts. Well, I have to
go out and dig the grave now AND check out how my other "babies" are sitting. I
still have 4 little ones set and 2 more pollinated. There is still hope I'll
make it to Topsfield! :) Pauline in Uxbridge,
