Hi George,
Brentwood, NH got wallopped as well. We did not get hail and My plants got
lucky because the trees took the brunt of the wind. LIttle to no damage
here but too close. As the storm was starting, I was struggling to get the
vines secured with stakes and had no time to cover them. I'll plan in
advance now and keep cover portable and nearby!
Hope your losses are minimal.
Kristina

Subject: Storm Report from MA (Still Here!)
The Center of a ferocious Thunderstorm passed one mile North of North
Tewksbury yesterday. It seemed to be centered over the Merrimack River or
Dracut, MA. The outflow winds were so strong and continuous it made a
roaring sound as it passed us by, similar to the noise a Tornado makes.
The
cause of the noise was confirmed with a meteorologist as strong outflow
downbursts, no hook clouds showed on Doppler radar. Even though we were not
under the center we experienced very strong winds of 50 - 60 mph downing
many
trees and wires. Electricity was out in the area until 4 this morning.
Pumpkin Damage: Less than 1% leaf breakage 30% vine roll over on the Child
of
The Living Dead and about half that on the AG-602-98-GB which is a stronger
plant. Most have recovered this morning and I expect to see full recovery
by
tomorrow. It will be interesting if the energy to recover takes away from
the growth rate. The Pumpkins were growing 5 to 5.5" when the storm hit.
Trees to the NW and a stockade helped save the patch. Thankfully there
wasn't any Hail (Sorry had to mention the "H" word). Some places were not
as
lucky as me and received golf ball size hail and 80 mph winds.
How did everybody else in New England do? Glenn, Erin, Wayne?
George Brooks
North Tewksbury, MA approximately 25 miles Northwest of Boston in the
Merrimack River Valley
