George,
One evening last August my wife met me at the truck when I pulled in from
work. She was extremly apologetic and distraught. She sat me down in the
kitchen to tell me some very bad news. As I sat there in the dark I
contemplated that maybe my father had died or that one of the children had
lost an eye or finger or something. She wouldn't tell me what had happened.
She handed me a beer and said, "Let me show you." We walked out to the
garden with a flashlight. In an attempt to mow some of the weeds near the
edge of the garden she had severed the main vine 6 inches from the base where
it came out of the ground. I was so relieved that no one had died or been
hurt. My pumpkin continued to grow as though nothing had happened. Maybe
that's why I could muster only a 221 from Brock 591 seed?
Yeah, that's the ticket. My pumpkin would have been 1059 lbs if my wife
hadn't mowed the main vine by mistake. Or was it a mistake? Which one of
you paid my wife to cut the main vine? Or did she act alone? Single Bullet
Theory!
Truth is stranger than fiction,
POV
My pumpkin will be fine if I just leave it alone!
