Hatching vine borer eggs? + Etc.

First off, thanks for all the help/ideas on my dead immature female
flowers. I think I pieced together what happened now and believe it
was the 95 degree heat prior to July 4th that did them in. I have brown/dry
tinged leaves too. The effect was not seen right away, but several days later.
It had cooled down before I noticed that anything was going on, so I didn't
associate it with the heat. But now I have lots of new healthy
ones coming in and have successfully pollinated 4 total so far.
(Unfortunately, big heat is back today; here we go again.)
Now for a "first-year" question... I've noticed that the bugs seem
to come in on again/off again waves (independent of spraying). I
had no bugs at all for the longest time, then I got cuke beetles,
then squash vine borer moths (it was pretty discouraging to see
them lay an egg before my eyes). Now it's back to nothing again.
But I'm wondering how long it takes a squash vine borer egg to hatch,
so I can be ready and perhaps step up spraying (I only had the
borer moths around for a few days, so I know when the eggs were laid).
Does anybody have an idea?
