Rocky,
If your main vines are buried, the female wasp will lay eggs at the base of
the leaves and the grubs will bore in from there to get to the main vine, I
have been spraying "Marlate 50 WP" which has 50% Methoxochlor in it at 7 day
intervals and am still getting vine borers, if the eggs hatch in as little as
3 days at 90 degrees (Which seems to be the temp most people are having) and
bore in the vine in as little as 2, it would seem that we need to spray every
five days "minimum" at least this is the action I'm taking, believe me, the
people who don't have to deal with these damn grubs are lucky indeed, its
hard to believe that 1 wasp can kill a Giant Plant with 1000 leaves in a very
short few weeks and it doesn't care how BIG! the pumpkin is growing on it.

<< My question about Borers would be this.. if vines are buried, can the
larvae
instinctively dig into the soil, and get to the root? Are they this smart,
or do
they just look for unburied roots? Anyone out there have horror story about
buried
vines being eaten by SVB'rs?
