Leaky Pumpkin?

My brother has an interesting dilema. He has a 28 day old pumpkin with a
circumference of 83". He noticed several days ago that there was a sap
like substance between the ribs in one particular spot. Today he
discovered that the yellow colored sap is on the pumpkin by the stem, by
what's left of the blossom and still by the ribs.
Has anyone ever experienced anything like this before and if so,...what is
it?
