Maximizing Pumpkin Growth

I'd like to start a discussion among the group about how to maximize
pumpkin growth. Let's say that you have established good vines, set
pumpkins, and culled down to 1-2/plant. Assuming that vine growth robs
pumpkins of potential weight gain, terminating vines should be
beneficial. When and how is this best achieved? Should vine termination
be dependannt on fruit size? (having fruits large enough to absorb the
increase in growth) Should the vines be terminated one at a time over
several days to spread out the increase in growth of the pumpkin? Should
vine termination be based on a point in the growing season?

Another issue is potassium. Since it is the major building block of
pumpkins, there is an increased demand for it after fruit set. When and
by how much should potassium be increased? Again should the fruit be a
certain size so that it can absorb the increase in growth? How much is
too much? Can increasing potassium have any adverse effects on the plant
or pumpkin? (early maturity of fruit or plant?)

Please post your thoughts.
Thanks
