I flat and rectangular vined this year on the same plant. a 785 McGregor
. I believe that this occurs because of vine damage. my vine split on both
sides in the early garden stages. pressure on a clump of dirt held the two
insides of the vine in close proximity . cell regeneration mended them
together flat were they made the bend, we talk about our pumpkins like
they have a brain some times but of course the don't. they do how ever have
an instinct to survive no matter how hard we try to kill them with
kindness. I call this pumpkin brain in the damaged vine The Cellular
Regeneration Instinct. I think this instinct tells the split vine to grow
together if it grows together really flat if serious flattening damage was
done. also if it is split in two halves this flat or rectangular vines
instinct tells it to put out twice as much cellular material because for a
while it thinks it is two vines. the two halves. in a rectangular vine
touch and grow together only at the edges and farther down the vine it
grows flat or rectangular. on the flat or rectangular vine twice as many
leaves grow and underneath twice as many roots the plant is trying to get
twice the sun and nutrients to re generate from a damaged main vine. even
farther down the vine it may split into two healthy vines once again
remember ing its parental programming. I also wonder if farther down the
vine in the pumpkin in the seed the parental programming of the seed for
the next vine it will grow ,does it retain the information of its parents
deformities for the growth of the next generation. kind of like which came
first the chicken or the egg which is a much easier question.
