Re: Okay.. now... How about Deer

Hi All,

First year grower here with an upcoming problem. Seeking guidance from the
learned and imaginative group of fellow listers out there in that great
pumpkin patch world of ours.

I'm lucky in the sense that I have no woodchucks in my part of the world.
However, I am blessed with an ample supply of white tail deer. These
critters don't appear interested in pumpkin plants in the least. They allow
you to grow the plants to your hearts content. They even appear to be
uninterested in pumpkins...at first....perhaps they just want you to spend
the maximum amount of time, money, and energy before they strike...I'm not
sure.

At any rate, they apparently enjoy the process of busting pumpkins with
their hoofs once they are about ripe. I am thinking they may have a deer
party and see which deer can make the biggest hole with their hoof...perhaps
as a way for the bucks to impress the doe.

I would like help in thwarting the deer fun. Sort of a Deer Party Pooper
Program, if you will. Any suggestions??

Pumpkin thought for the day 06/01/00

The world is a pumpkin patch
To enrich and work each day
Until we grow the best we can
With help from friends and toil.

The world is a pumpkin patch
To make better in our own way.
Yet we so often treat as dirt
God's precious, living soil.

The world is a pumpkin patch
and the question of the day-
Will our fruits be great or small?
The answer comes from our soul.
