Pumpkin Newbie with Questions
Fellow Pumpkiners,
Hello. I would just like to introduce myself (sorry
about the e-mail address, a bit corny, but my e-mail
and website server in Pine, CO is located in the
middle of a forest fire). My name is Mark, obtw.
I have been conned into growing some Atlantic Giant
pumpkins for a friend so she can win a competition. So
I have a few questions that hopefully some
kind-hearted individuals would help me with. (I too am
interested in winning, but I have always loved
pumpkins (I was born in New England but I now living
in Switzerland).
Anywho, down to my questions:
I transplanted two pumpkin plants about a month ago
when they had 3 leaves on them... and they promptly
got blown away in a wind storm, ripped off the stems
at ground level. I have since purchased new plants
(planted them three weeks ago) and have built a little
"greenhouse" using green-greenhouse plastic (with tiny
holes) and bent metal rods. The pumpkins are inside
the greenhouse and are prospering, however they dont
seem to be growing very quickly... There are new leaf
buds etc, but they are still only about 1 foot long.
Is this normal?
Also, I have read almost all the info on the WWW
regarding growing pumpkins, and have come away a bit
confused, there seem to be differing opinions on
almost everything. My biggest questions are:
How much water and how often. Does water temp. mater?
Fertilizer / mulch (what type, how much and when?)
How big will these plants actually get?
Thanks in andvance for any help you can give.
Best Regards,
Mark
