We have planted a Great Atlantic pumpkin plant on the Mall in Washington
between the Capitol and the Washington Monument as part of the Smithsonian
Folklife Festival. This year the Smithsonian is having D.C. be one of the
interest areas for its Folklife Festival. Included in the DC activities is an
example of a community garden.
Beth Rado germinated the seed and it is now growing in ZooDoo as part of
the community garden. While it has not started to vine since being
transplanted two weeks ago, the leaves are around 10 inches. (It is three
times the size of a comparable plant growing in my backyard -- so Beth is right
about the power of ZooDoo.)
Anyone in D.C. over the next two weeks should stop by. It is front of the
Museum of American History. The Smithsonian Folklife Festival will be on the
mall starting today through July 4th. There will be talks on community gardens
on both weekends.
