Mark,
Put a little fungicide on the splits and cover that area with dirt. Get
some plastic coat hangers at Walmart (about 10 for a Buck) cut them into
hooks in the shape of a Candy Cane. Press them into the ground and hook the
main vine in place so the wind cannot have its way with your plant. Also as
the plant grows move or ad more hooks as close to the end of your vines as
possible. Many good plants have been lost to a single strong wind guest. Good
