Re: WI growers...storm damage?

Perhaps I should clarify... if you get your
seed from another grower, most likely someone
on this list or someone you meet at a weighoff,
it should probably be termed in the "weight NAME Year"
format. If the seeds come from a seed company, then
you won't have this.

AG does stand for Atlantic Giant, and the 800 might
mean that the seeds were culled from an 800 pound
pumpkin, but you can't be sure of that.

Part of the reason for being specific about the
actual pumpkin (the grower, the weight, and the year)
is to document and hopefully study the genetic background
of that particular seed. In the case of the seed
company seed, we probably do not know who "its" parents
were...

You had a question about variety. The Atlantic Giant is
the largest variety, by far. Some others, such as Big
Max and Prizewinner are noted for their size, but they
do not approach the AG (IMHO). If you want to shoot for
state and world records, go with the AG.

I would recommend purchasing or finding in your library
the books "How to Grow World Class Giant Pumpkins, vol.
1 and 2" by Don Langevin. These are excellent books that
can help get you started.

Regards, Cliff in Idaho, where we go from record lows
to record highs, to record lows...
