RE: Culling Plants
Don't worry TJ, you still have many reasons to be on the list!
I won't be the one to tell you to cull one of your plants. If they are not
in the same mound, I would let them go until they are crowding each other
for space. (Shouldn't be long in 10x10) You will know better by then which
plant you want to keep. If you want to cross pollinate them, you only need
to keep a couple vines for males on the second plant until you have the
female pollinated on your primary plant. (Or you can get pollen from
another grower in your area.)
On your plot size...I did basically the same thing last year. I had a 10x10
dug area for one of my plants (Mongeon 300) and let it spill over onto the
yard. I got my largest pumpkin, a 328 lb (UOW), off that plant. The kids
at my daughters school were positive that was the biggest pumpkin ever
grown. I told them it was only 1/4 the size of the largest....you should
have seen their faces.
No ritual for culling plants yet...guess it depends on your religion. I've
heard some people drop trees on them to make them squash. :-)
Good luck!
