Torrance report

  List
Well here is the Torrance report for 6-17-01.
The weather is nice in the upper 70's and the plants are kicking in Quite
well.

Mound # 1.. The Flying Dutchman.. The 986 Hester is pulling through its
shock from the pesticide and is starting to vine Quite well it's about 2 feet
long but real lanky and still is not the plant I want. The other day I
received a plant from Bob Troy (thanks Bob) it is a 954 Barenchi and is
double planted with the 986. It has doubled in size and looks like it will
start its assault on the patch in the next few weeks.

Mound # 2.. Carnage.. The 791 Glasier is pulled out of its pesticide
damage and now is almost 6 feet long with secondaries 18 inches long and
pointing totally vertical. This plant looks great but is on the skinny side
still nice but is going for distance rather than girth. This is a good plant
and is my only true shot at Half Moon Bay. So wish me luck. The 774 Mombert
direct started in the mound looks great but is only 1 1/2 feet from the 791
so will be taken out in the next week as it will be covered in a day or so.

Mound # 3.. This mound holds the 547 Kournikakis I am sick I didn't put
this one in mound # 1. This plant is possibly the most overlooked seed. I
would write Bill and ask him for a few for next year if I were you! Great
plant not in the best growing conditions and still is robust with perfect
leaf shape and color, heavy trunk. It is a 935 Lloyd self pollinated and I
will probably use it as a male pollinator along with growing a pumpkin on it.
I will defiantly start this one next year to make the first cut for 2002
season.

I put four plants in the perimeter of my garden just to see them grow and
will cull them later. # 1, 642 Glasier defiantly flat vine robust healthy as
all heck dark green and absolutely an eye catcher, Will be looking foreword
to seeing it grow if only for a month or so. # 2,3 and 4 are my 247 Smith 00
one is obviously the silver bullet. Killer plant and is a joy to watch grow 1
ft runner and already has male flowers ready to elongate. But will be culled
soon enough.

I tried the aeration project this year, want to know more contact me
privately as how to set it up. The 3 inch pipes are showing roots down to 2
1/2 feet from the 986 which means that the roots are already over 3 3/4 feet
long just in that area. This is with a plant only 2 feet long Good Sign I
guess!!

Well, that's about it and I am hoping for a little more warm weather and
then I will be back in the running!! I will fertilize today and water HEAVY
due to we probably wont see any rain until next October!!
Take care all and GROW EM BIG !!!!
(REMEMBER) never judge a man until you have walked a mile in his shoes, That
way you are a mile away and YOU HAVE HIS SHOES !!!
