Re: Watering by gravity?

I'm late on this thread, but if your using the barrels
for solar water heating, just make it a closed system and
hook the hose to the intake end of the barrel. I use two
barrels plumbed in series, barrel one has the intake line
that goes partially down into the barrel so the cold water
enters down low. This is so the warmed water at the top
leaves barrel one, and it enters barrel two through an
intake (of barrel two) that vents at the lower portion of
barrel two. Doubly warmed water exits the top of barrel two
and goes into the soaker hose that's spiraled about the
pumkin bed.
The problem I have is the pressure needed to force the
water into the bottom of the barrel is higher than I would
like, since it's having to overcome a couple of feet of
head, as well as some line friction too, so I get a little
pressure loss at barrel two outlet. The good news is I have
55 gallons of bath water, and 55 gallons of warmish water,
all at close to regular pressure. I don't have to elevate
the barrels, they just sit on the ground near the patch.
