First timer

Hi,
I am a first time grower. I've Just tilled up my first ever (be it
small) patch. Now I am stumped, I've been reading the list for a month
or so, and all the numbers and names have me baffled. Just what is a
good plant for a newbie like my self? I live in Nova Scotia and summer
isn't all that long (if it ever gets here at all)
