Re: Will Robins eat My Pumpkins...Please HELP!

Hi my name is Keith   I'm  from southern california and don't here much about many people from my area, but anyways i am a first year grower in a rather confined area inspired by a local grower of a 650lb pumkin i saw at a local nursery and then read about in the paper.  Are the names everybody has for their plants some sort of gene pedegry or family line ? Or are these nicknames people give their plants. I got my seeds from the dills in Canada and they just said the weight from which they came from ..example 808lbs and 730lbs..?
Also i believe i started my plants alittle late planting on 5/17 having sprouts on 5/23 but my 803 plant is growing at an unbelievable pase with 15" leaves and now just vineing .  I love all these e-mails i get to read and have bought and read the second growers guide from the Dills prior to my first attempt this year.   Any advise I'd love to here from anybody
Also wheres the nearest weighoff if i ever get a big one to row....thanks      Keith Reh   Orange County  California

So what is your personal best ???? Try and relax this is fun and if you have a pumpkin question ask it we have all made allot of friends here on the list and when we meet in person it is like seeing long lost relatives. There is NO ONE on this list with less time to read emails than me and I have been ticked off myself as to the amount of jibber jabber but quickly realized it was MY PROBLEM with what I was angry with and not my great friends on the list having a wonderful time sharing there personal experiences and proving that they are just HUMAN. Honest truth is the REAL MEAT of growing pumpkins can be found in Don Langevins How to grow World Class Giant Pumpkins 1 and 2, (had to put in a plug for my Buddy) and if you have been on this list for a while you will realize we have exhausted almost all the concepts of growing, Everything you could ever imagine about growing pumpkins is in the archives and all new questions are just reminders, Take some time and look at the! archives there is a wealth of knowledge there that you literally could spend the rest of the year reading. I don't want to get on everyone's bad side BUT RELAX we have created a beautiful community here and I complement ALL my friends for adding to this wonderful list.. Take care and Bash me privately !! I may check my messages next month!!!!
