Road Trip

List,
Overdue update and thank you to those who helped make my CT to MO road trip worthwhile and fun.
In MO I again visited with Dan Westfall, the MO Record Holder @ 647.7LB. It was again to short of a visit! Never enough time to talk pumpkins! Dan secured a couple of water tanks for me that I returned with in my van. Thanks DAN!
I again was invited to Chris Wilburs home in MO for dinner. We had a great time talking pumpkins over dinner. His wife and children are a delight and it was good to see them again. Also, to short of a visit, but we all live such busy lives
On the way home I stopped just outside Columbus Ohio. Chuck Geiger had invited me to see his farm. They were in the middle of a Graduation party for his son Tim. Chuck and his wife Diane made me feel right at home and even had a room set up for me to stay over! Now, how many people would invite someone they had never met to stay over for the night? Pumpkin people truly are special.
I was also lucky to meet Buddy Conley and Karen Wiget, who were at Buddy's home for the party. Buddy treated me to some of his seeds from his 897, 862est, 699lb pumpkins. Buddy grew some real good lookers. Thank You for those seeds Buddy! We had a great time talking pumpkins and went on line with Chucks computer. We visited BigPumpkins.com and the AGGC into the wee hours of the morning.
I also had invitations from Paul "Gus" Smithhisler and Brad Walters. Unfortunately, time restraints did not allow me to meet them or attend the IPGA seminar. Look forward to meeting you both next time, and thank you both for contacting me and reaching out.
In short, It's not just about growing pumpkins. Pumpkins have given us all a common interest to springboard off and make new friends. To share with others the same burning interest, gives us the chance to get to know people we would have never meet. I don't think Howard Dill had this in mind. But, everything effects everything. Howard, inadvertently invented a means for us all to extend or increase the pleasure in our lives and connect at a new level with people we would have never known. "Getting into Pumpkins" has been one of the great pleasures of my life.
