Early Vigor - An Impromtu Experiment

Audrey (my 995 Carter plant) surprised me this morning.   Because there - sitting about 7 feet out on the main vine - was a perfect miniature female bud.  My other plants are barely toddlers, just starting to vine, and Audrey's entering puberty already.

These plants never cease to amaze me, but the vigor and sass Audrey shows is completely off the charts.

So, I'm trying an experiment of sorts.  I'm ranking my plants based on early vigor and how heavily the vines push roots to try to predict which will throw the biggest pumpkin. (god willing)

I took pictures of all my plants at four weeks from germination and ranked them at the following web site:    http://home.pacbell.net/diana_do/vigor.htm

It is interesting to see just how differently these four plants are growing in an environment that is for all purposes almost identical.  (Only minor differences in the two patches)

Of course, Audrey is ranked number one, with Geneva Electric (922 Emmons) following close behind.  In about two months, it should start to become clearer if early vigor really has a connection with the size of the pumpkin the plant produces.
