RE: color ruling
First...t and y are right next to each other, sorry for the one typo
compared to the many I see on the list daily
Second, the IPGA survey was a formal survey, seems to have a little more
validity.
Third, I plan to abide by whatever rules the weigh-off I go to enforces,
regardless of whether I like them or not.
Lastly, you will notice I do not take my fruit to a Pumpkin contest, I take
it to a weigh-off. At this same event, a great multitude of other giants
are also represented, i.e. tomatoes, watermelon, sunflowers, long gourds,
etc.
You are right, pumpkins are orange and most anyone seeking a giant
jack-o-lantern is going to want an orange fruit. I think a fruit that is
24% green is hideous, yet it is considered a pumpkin. I also consider
several colors that are considered pumpkins as ugly, i.e. tan, yellow,
salmon, etc, but those colors are acceptable. The gene pool is very mixed
now and some seed can go either way. It is for these people that I wish the
GPC would throw out the grid and say biggest wins. If there were a solid
line between pumpkin and squash, I would take my green fruit to a squash
competition, but since there isn't, a weigh-off will have to suffice.

BOO yourself...
do you really think that the GPC doesn't care what the
growers opinions are ? !!!!!
do i like everything the GPC does... NO. but if i
want to go to one of their weigh offs then i'll
abide by their rules. and if i'd want to change the
rules then I go through the rule group and
there procedures.
I'm glad you expressed you opinion. butif you ask me,
just my opinion, it's an oxymoron to say pumpkin are
anything but orange. if you want a biggest
fruit contest... go for it... just don't call it a
pumpkin contest.
Gordon
ps- my own informal survey supports the orange only
rules.
pss- who is Mat and why does he get to grow the
biggest
fruit ?
