Patch update
Elk Grove, Ca Central Valley
( yes "One Nation Under God", people do the darndest things)
Well things seem to be the same. Cool weather has seem to put a slowness into the patch untill recently. All plants were planted may 20 except for two that were the beggining of may. Thought things were behind for the july 12 pollination date, but hot weather the last two weeks has changed my mind, starting to finally run 2-3' and growing 6-12' daily now. Looks like we are getting into stride, even by loosing some leaves by that strong wind. Temps are 95* - 58*, couple of 100, but hope for the same. Here are the plants
991 Hunt set fruit on 22nd june planted started slow, fruits tend to catch up quick on this plant
842 Mitchell also fruit set 22nd, plant is smoking, but vines like to go off into space
Other youngster
940 Mombert 98 (male to the 842) Doing very well, should be the best plant, 4'.
723 Bobier Starting to go know right after 940, bent abit in the stump when going to ground. 3'
922 Emmons smoking early then decides to pop multiple secondaries and male floweres 4'. Wants to go though and still like what I see.
960 Rose Sunk after planting and grew out of hole quite nicely looks good we'll see
1064 Needham Slow start just gowing, hit ground yesterday.
1230 Daletas Real slow, finally likes the heat same problem with multiples, very thick stump, maybe the dark horse.
449 Marcellus looks good slow start, bent stump, been there and this puppy like to explode fruit. Mother of the Hunt 991. Maybe
1056 Dueck. First seed no start second scary slow, got gowing looks like the quick finisher.
845 Bobier One codyledon, slow entry, growing good, great fruit by December or maybe @112* heat.
Thats the story, cool weather fertilize hard to pick up the pace, burn some leaves, gets hot, flying now, just watching for the french frying heat and the bugs it hatches.
Live big, die big.
Good luck to all
