3.5 is a bit leggy. Get them in the soil now and bury one all the way up to
the leaves and the other half way up.
If the direction of the vine is a concern, The vine will grow in the
opposite direction of the first true leaf 9 times out of 10.
The first true leaf is the first leaf after the two that come out of the
seed coat.
You can also plant the plant on an angle. First true leaf up, so the vine
will start traveling along the ground at a lower angle.
Depending on your weather, if it's cool at night, cover them with a plastic
hoop house or anything to keep them from getting too cold at night. Don't
forget to remove them during the day!
It wouldn't hurt to germinate a few more seeds as back up's.
