The purpose of planting them in the peat pots is to avoid the rood shock of
tearing them out of a pot. At that size, they are definitely root bound and
growing through the peat pots. I would suggest planting them about as deep
as the pot is tall, then tear off the top 1" of the rim. (This prevents the
pot from wicking moisture from the roots and drying them out quicker.)
In the future, I would suggest perforating your pots before planting (poke
it with a screwdriver, pencil, etc.) to give the roots a little more freedom
to grow out of the pot instead of through it. This may seem trivial, but I
think it does slow the plants down a little during it's formative
years...er...days.
Good luck, you will do fine. Mine are in the ground, but your plants are
about even with most of mine, just because of the poor weather we've been
having.

Thanks Gus and Bart, for answering my question about the definition of
"set".
Well, the manure is tilled into the soil, it hasn't rained enough to even
mention for 2 days in a row now (!) so tonight my babies go in the ground!
I have six plants, two with 3 going on 4 leaves. Should I just plant the
two
biggest? And should I plant them in the peat pots or take them out before
putting them in the ground?
Thanks!!
