"Try using Dry Dog Food trenched into your garden. "
interesting thought, but wouldn't this quite certainly attract other(skunks, raccoons) very much UNWANTED guests to this party?

I have for the past year been trying to get a significant
earthworm population built up in my raised bed pumpkin patch. I
have had only mixed results. I have added a lot of organic
matter to the soil and have used mostly organic methods to grow
the pumpkins (including fertilizers), but few worms have
appeared.
I have also tried introducing them by hand but this does not
seemed to have wormed extremely well to date either. Recently I
came across a new "product" that those wanting a larger
earthworm population might be interested in. A gentleman named
Bill Kreitzer (http://www.billkreitzer.com) has come up with a
way to plant worms in your patch. He calls them VermiPods and
they are essentially encapsulated earthworm cocoons. Quite
interesting to read about it even if you don't really need the
worms in your area.
I will be trying the VermiPods this season and would be
interested in hearing from other growers who might try them. I
will posting again later in the season to let others know how
they worked for me.

Try using Dry Dog Food trenched into your garden. They like to feed on it as it starts to soften down. Regular Earth Worms cannot feed on fresh compost it must be well broken down unlike Red Wigglers that can feed even on green plant matter.

Hi everybody!
Things are a little different here in Tennessee. Our temp. yesterday was 90.
My plants are doing well. My best one is the 906 Tanner followed closely by
the 736 Bhaskaran (sorry David).
We may not be able to grow "big ones" like you guys in the North, but one
thing we can grow is tomatoes! I have several Big Zac's that I grew from
seeds and they are blooming!!
I will try to include a picture of the 906 Tanner, but I realize that not
everyone's e-mail software will allow them to see it.
Have a great year,

Howdy!
Just a quick update!
After a very cold May here in MN (18 degrees one night!), we have finally
got heat to start June up...hit 80 degrees officially! My vines are about
6ft
behind last year at this time, but I'm just happy they made it! :-)
Here are the current stats as of 6/1/2005:
798.5 Bhaskaran - 5ft MV...flat vine split into 2 main vines...turned one
into secondary.
759.5 Bhaskaran - 5ft MV.
981 Zunino - 4 1/2 ft MV.
501.5 Beachy #1 - 4 ft MV - has female on it :-) I will not pollinate it
as
it is way to close.
501.5 Beachy #2 - 4 ft MV
1385 Daletas - 3 1/2ft MV
486 Bhaskaran - 3 1/2ft MV
1048 Companion - 3 1/2ft MV
1446 Eaton - 3ft MV
306.5 Rys - 3ft MV
I should mention that the 1446 Eaton and 1385 Daletas were started about
1.5
weeks later the rest. Also my 698 Hester 00 didn't make it and was
replaced
by a 1048 Companion...another red/orange.
No updates yet on the web page. Although I do have a picture of them I
should put out covered in snow in May. :-)
Take care and wishing everyone a great June!

Dr. Leonard,
My name is Wayne and I live near Owensboro, Ky. and I am also growing
a 906 Tanner. I started it real early, planted in patch on April 2, inside
hoop house w/heat. It now has a main vine approx. 18' long and a pumpkin
pollinated at about 12' on May 23. Circum. this evening right at 30". This is my
first year to grow AG's with any knowledge about growing them. Early start is
in hopes of having mature fruit for Indiana State Fair in mid-August. Thought
we could compare how our 906's do thru the season. Have fun and grow 'em
big!!!!!
My email addy is _wsmpeace@aol.com_ (w*@aol.com)
Peace
Wayne
