Update from SE MN

After a cold and damp May (averaged two degrees below normal), June has been warm, damp and muggy. The pumpkins survived small hail, high winds, and two inches of rain via a downpour this past week. It is now great pumpkin growing weather with the high temperatures in the 80s and lows in the 60s. Hopefully, these same temperatures will be around late July and August for maximum pumpkin growth.

Here are the pumpkin plants with their parents that I am growing this year along with the vine length as of June 9:

1) 753 (UOW) Eaton 04 -- 1132 Eaton 03 x 842 Eaton 02 -- 49" -- The last several days this plant has grown 6+ inches a day.
2) 587.5 Heyne 04 -- 1458 (Dmg) Whittier 03 x 1180 Daletas 03 -- 41"
3) 553 (UOW) Heyne 04 -- 1134 Holland 03 x 1458 (Dmg) Whittier 03 -- 35"
4) 1446 Eaton 04 -- 842 Eaton 02 x 1301.5 Eaton 03 -- 32" -- Plant is starting to take off
5) 1127 Holland 04 -- 1097.5 Beachy 02 x 805 Pukos 00 -- 30" -- My personal best was from a 1097.5 Beachy.-- This plant was started almost five days later than the other plants.
6) 1420.5 LaRue 04 -- 1104.5 Hester 03 x 1180 Daletas 03 -- 28" -- This is a slow growing plant.
7) 798.5 Bhaskaran 04 -- 808.5 Beachy 03 x Self -- 18" -- Started out with a double vine and I cut one off. It is now growing slowly as a single vine.

My best to all you pumpkin growers this year in your quest to grow your personal best.
