Re: split main vine

Since it is 3 inches long, I assume it's 'with the grain' i.e. split in the same direction as vine growth. Just let it air dry, or possibly sprinkle some dry Captan on the wound...it'll scab over and continue to grow and pass nutrients normally. 
If it's 'across the grain' i.e. perpendicular to the vine growth, then I'd say that's pretty bad news, depending on the depth of the split.
