Wait for the soil to dry so. Never work wet soil lest it will destroy the
physical properties.

Thanks for all the advice. At this time (we got more rain last night) the
ground is sodden again. Should I wait till it dries out some, like in a
couple of days, before I start covering the vines, or just go ahead and pile
mucky mud on them? Don't want to rot the vines..what to do, what to do? I
think they're looking a little better this morning from a distance. Will
head
down that way in my gumboots and see what's happenin' today.
This pumpkin growin' ain't for sissies.
