Wow, sorry to hear of all the damage... and I was bemoaning the giant
splits in my vines. May your farm recover as quickly as my plants went
down the tubes!

We are now an official dropoff point for duct tape and twist ties. So.
How much duct tape/twist ties will it take to fix the damage to my nine
pumpkin vines which underwent 70 mph winds, 1 1/2" hailstones, and 4" of
rain last night? See pictures on my diary at www.bigpumpkins.com It
never rains this much in Kansas. I think the dry times are coming,
soon, though.
I'm just going to sit back for a day and think this over. We'll see
what they look like an a couple of days. We've had two cellphones and a
landline going since about 7:00 this morning. Had damage to a livestock
barn, and will have to move animals out today. Had damage to trees and
will have to move them out of the yard. Had damage to wheat, which is
down and broken and sad. Had to call carpenters, insurance guys and get
someone to help us load the livestock and line up trucks to ship them
out. What a mess. Water across the roads, power outages, BUT...the sun
is shining and no more storms forecast. What would be the use of
another storm...everything's already wrecked. Oh, my poor
punkies. Maybe they'll make it again. Do you suppose we could use
duct tape
to put the roof back on the barn? Let's see, how many rolls would that
take?
I have two more seeds, a 940.5 Bhaskaran 08 and an 838.5 Bhaskaran 07.
They're going in the incubator in a few minutes.
I saw pictures this morning on national news of New Jersey hail piled up
INCHES DEEP. I'm sorry for any growers who got that. At least my vines
still have some remnants of leaves and a chance to make it through.
Adversity only makes us stronger. I wonder if that works on pumpkins,
too?
With duct tape.
cheers,
duchess of gladstone
