vine burying

I was wondering if all of the vines are to be buried.  If there is a SVB larvae in the vine and the vine is buried, you would never see see it or know where it is to extract it.  Of course if it is in the vine I would imagine that it would be too late anyway.  

I have caught 35 SVB's so far in the trap.
