Re: windbreaks

Chris and other wind blown growers,

I constructed a 10'x20' hoop doom with supports on the sides and top
out of 20' sticks of 1/2" pvc pipe for about 10$ (including joints and
glue) With 20" sections of 3/4 inch pvc stuck in the ground the dome
sits inside the larger pipes and I am able to remove the whole structure
with two people. More importantly though along the bottom I have run
woven plastic as a wind break about 18" high. I got the tarps at the
local lumber yard that they throw away from their shipments for free. I
turned the dark side toward the plant for additional heat retention.
If you need additional support against the wind, sink about six of the
metal cattle fence posts into the ground and wrap your windbreak around
them. Use regular wire to secure the tarp material to the fence posts
and you have a very secure low cost wind break.........Hope it
helps.........Neal Port Orchard Wa.
