Ladies and Gents and Pumpkin growers,
The weekly moment you have all been waiting for is here, yes its true the
next installment of ever impressive, always exciting, and outrageously
overrated Oregon Update from the hick capital of the world, Canby, where
plants grow well from that stuff on the bottom of your shoe, and it isn't a
pig you see roasting on the fire, its the neighbors dog.
Anyway, things have been rather crapy over here the past week or so, temps
haven't been worth speaking of with highs hovering around 70 degrees and lows
45-55. It is not overly enjoyable to say the least. I have seven pumpkins
set now, but due to the cool weather their starts all all slow. Praying for
heat to hit the PNW soon!!!!
Site #1 The Transplanted #627.5 The plant is now number two in size,
behind its brother 627 in site #4. It has surpassed both the 827 and the 850
in the past 2 weeks. I am looking to begin setting fruit on this plant next
week.
Site #2 The #827 The plant is fine but I am not impressed by the leaves and
runner size at all. I know the 827 has always been fairly leggy, but it
isn't what I expected at all. The overall size of the plant is fine square
footage wize, but it looks weak. I can't complain however for my largest
pumpkin sits on that plant.
Site #3 The #850.5 Saga This plant has become the novelty of the garden.
The second main began to club like the original main vine I removed, but the
split into two monster normal vines. The plant is expanding very rapidly now
and with each passing day, looks better and better. It will begin setting
fruit in 3 days.
Site #4 The Big #627.5 Hester from hell. Five pumpkins are set and growing,
with every one I pollinated has set. The main runner is over 24 feet out and
now begining to wrap around the corn patch. About 18 feet out I set a huge
baby with 7 full lobes in its blossom. I used 7 males from the #827 and 3
from the #850.5. It was fully coated with pollen to say the least. The stem
is long and it sits in a great spot. What is that, 1200 pounds?????
