Hi everyone.
Unfortunately, Rick Noffke is off the list at the moment. I sent him a
copy of that discussion about temperature differentials; this is his
response:
Yes, this is an interesting topic, but I'm not sure how this could be
applied to help our cause.
I guess I don't have a precise answer to the question at hand
though, but from what I've seen.....the diff response affects leggy-ness
more than only creating a larger plant. The plant is larger because it
stretches......much like a plant that isn't getting enough light. I
never counted, but I don't think that this response illicited more
nodes, but rather the same number of nodes with longer internode
sections.
In general the elongated (positive diff) response is considered
unfavorable. Diff control is used more to create stocky
plants............however........
There is no doubt that temperature relationships have a huge role
in all stages of growth from germination and emergence right through
fruit maturity. Maybe there will be a way to manipulate our growing
environments to gain a little extra growth in this way.
Certainly an interesting subject! Rick
