Where the Boys are.

Here is an idea for a few of you out there who want to set pumpkins as
soon as possible. Some have experienced the frustration of seeing a nice
looking female begging for pollination but there ain't a boy around to
be seen. I have a female about to bloom six feet out but no males yet.
BUT....I planted some pumpkins from my 6 year old's class in their court
yard. They are tiny plants, not growing in optimum conditions. BUT
because of this they have matured quickly and are throwing out numerous
male flowers and some females. I now have a source of pollen for this
little cutie. So the lesson is that if you are interested in setting
fruit as soon as possible grow a few plants early, in less then optimum
conditions. Mature them quickly in order to have males around if you
should find an early female waitin for her man!
