update 742 Holland

"My 742 Holland 96 was dug up and passed on to another grower. "

I am that other to whom grower who Chris gave his plant. This was kind
gesture in response to "my story", where I accidentally cooked my seeds
in their pots in the oven. He also gave me a few choice seeds. I'd like
to thank him, and give an update on the plant. The plant was
transplanted the next day after receiving it. It had 4-5 leaves and was
approximately a foot long. It seems to have survived the transplanting
fine. It is just a little longer maybe 1/2 a foot and has a couple more
leaves. Still waiting with the other area growers for the weather to
warm up. I have small backyard garden. It is a 16'x30' area, (hope
to expand some next year) there is grass around it so that the plant
can grow outside the dirt area too. I successfully germinated a 761 La
Rue seed that Chris gave me. This way I hope to have two plants- one
for a male and one for a female, then just keep the female plant. I
soaked the seed for 1-2 hours and placed it in between damp paper towels
in a ziplock bag, no sanding. 3 days later it had about a 2 inch root,
and was ready for its little pot under the fluorescent lamp. It is
interesting to note that the root had turned 180 degrees and was growing
toward the crown of the seed. This made planting a little tricky. The
root was planted horizontally and the seed was horizontal too and also
half buried in the dirt. A few days later the little plant had
straightened itself out and the seed shell came off easily, it was
almost off, by itself already. I assume that the roots know which way
to grow once they hit the dirt. Now plant has just started its first
growth, other than the 2 seed leaves. We shall see how this late
starts turns out. With the cool weather that we have been having, I
don't think that I am too far behind other growers in the area.
I'd be willing to share pollen (as soon as I get some flowers), if any
body is interested. I think it would help guys like me out who
essentially just grow one plant.
Thanks again Chris !!!
