I've got several plants that were started in a planter that
I built and added soil to. The plants in the planter are
all very healthy and a rich green coloration. I transplanted
two of the plants directly into the ground several weeks
ago. The leaves on these two plants have turned very yellow.
I realize that this is an indication of poor soil, so I
added manure to it along with some miracle grow fertilizer.
This seems to be having no affect. I've bought a soil analyzer
and plan on testing the soil this weekend. I am not too
concerned with these particular plants as I transplanted
them rather than just pulling them and throwing them out.
I'm just curious if there's anything else I might check.
I also am curious as to what time frame I should expect
for any changes in the soil composition I make to start
taking affect.
We just moved into this house in November, so realistically,
I'm trying to get the soil in shape for next years crop...
On another topic - one of my other plants is flowering and it
seems like the male and female flowers are blooming out of
sequence with each other. My questions are:
- is that normal for one plant to do?
- if so, how does one time the manual pollination?
- should I pollinate a female flower from a male on the same
plant or is it better to use one from a different plant?
Thanks for any advice and/or comments.
