Well, the main kind of kelp used is Ascophyllum Nodosum which is sold as Maxi-
Crop at a lot of gardening stores in the organic section. You can get the
concentrated liquid (1 Tablespoon to a gallon of water), or a powder that you
dilute with water. Our gardening store doesn't sell MaxiCrop anymore (they
switched to a combination of fish emulsion and seaweed and I like them
separate) so I just ordered some from Gardens Alive. Farmers have been using
kelp for the last 1000 years to improve plant growth. But as a foliar spray
the key is to make sure it is DILUTED, and not too strong. It also is supposed
to boost plants' resistance to diseases. (Actually that is one of the main
things it is good for). There have been whole books written about seaweed use
in gardening. I just wondered if anyone has done any controlled experiments
with giant pumpkins!
