This is the slowest year I have had in some 6 years of pumpkins. I'm
concerned that it may have something to do with soil temps.
My question is how important are soil temps?
Late this evening I checked the temperature at several different depths.
surface temp 102 degrees
4 inches down 92 degrees
6 inches down 86 degrees
8 inches down 84 degrees
I didn't use misters today because the outside temp was only 88. Had I
known that the surface temp was 102 after the temp outside had dropped to
78 I would have turned on the misters in the later part of the afternoon.
My plants showed signs of leaf burn today. This is in part because they
are very small and close to the ground.
