Wrestling with the Females

Down here in the heat the windows of opportunity are small for
pollenation and fruitset. Igot up at 5:30, Saturday morning but the
female I was watching didn't bloom. Sunday, Father's Day, I told my wife
that I just need to go in the morning sometime. Well I didn't get there
till noon, it was 95 out, two females had blossomed and closed already.
The bees had gotten most of the pollen in the males. I pollenated them
as best I could and iced them down, as best I could, (this is an awkward
task. I used gallon jugs frozen with water, under toweling which seemed
to work but I may have been too late to begin with. Looks likw two more
coming tomorrow and I will be up before the dawn waiting. These are
Castellucci plants 682.4, 733, 743.2. I germinated them near the end of
April and got in the patch about May 3rd or so. Tremendous plants so far
but my kingdom for a set fruit.

ZOO

Got two small softball pumpkins on the kids plants at school. Plants are
about five feet long with pumpkins on them.
