Re: question on soil temperature

Pacfarm,

Here is how I run the misters.

3/4 inch valve without pressure regulator. My well operates at pressures
between 35 to 65 psi. I don't have any problems with the misters blowing
off. If you live in the city your pressure will be some where around 50
psi. you shouldn't have any problems.

I run a 3/4 inch valve, out of the valve 3/4 pvc sprinkler pipe at each
patch tee up to the surface with a 3/4 inch tee and 90 degree
slip/thread elbow, transition nipple (pipe thread to hose thread), 1/2"
drip female adapter with hose thread attached to nipple. 1/2 inch pipe
runs up to over head mister system.

Over head misters.
I place " T " fence posts at the corners and about 12 feet apart on the
perimeter of the patch. so it creates a " U " shape around the patch.
leaving the open end of the " U " on the down wind side. (our winds come
from the north/west and south/west so the open part of the " U " faces
east) I strung wire from post to post like they do in grape vineyards to
hold the 1/2 drip pipe. 1/2" drip pipe is attached with zip ties at
around 4 foot intervals to reduce sag. At the end of the run you can end
it with a simple figure "8" end cap or continue on to the next patch. I
find it easier to end it and attach a new line to the pvc pipe at the
next patch so I don't have to bend over when walking from patch to patch.

Misters
I use 2 gph (Drip Mist / Hardie Irrigation) misters 6 feet apart spiked
into the side of 1/2" drip pipe, spraying up in the air to let the wind
cast the mist over the plants. I get too much water on the soil if the
misters are pointed down.

My patches are 40 X 40 so I have a mist line down the center. So far I
haven't used the center line and I don't know if it is needed. Out
temperatures are still in the 80's but when it gets to 110 I'll need all
the mist I can get.
